The leading Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee said on CBS’s Face the Nation that the hypocrisy reaches out and grabs you by the throat concerning President Trump’s recent tweet on Saturday about him only wanting to release a heavily redacted Democrat rebuttal memo in response to a Republican “Nunes memo” that raised questions about the motives and methods undertaken by the Justice Department in 2016 to gain a court surveillance subpoena of a former Trump campaign official with Russian ties.
Rep. Adam Schiff, a Democrat from California serving as the ranking member of House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, said that unlike Republicans they gave the FBI and Justice Department their memo even before they took it up to their committee and invited feedback as to any concerns over sources and methods.
“Here the Republicans write a memo which the FBI quite accurately describes as misleading and omitting material facts. The Department of Justice says it would be extraordinarily reckless to release this. And what does the president do. He says I’m going to release it before I even read it 100 percent of it to release it.” Schiff said.
Rep. Adam Schiff explained that this is a president who put his own interests above the national security interests of the country.
President Trump’s Saturday tweet called the Democrat memo a “very political and long response memo” which would have to heavily redacted because of sources and methods.
The Democrats sent a very political and long response memo which they knew, because of sources and methods (and more), would have to be heavily redacted, whereupon they would blame the White House for lack of transparency. Told them to re-do and send back in proper form!

Rep. Schiff said that what is really going on here is the president doesn’t want the public to see the underlying facts.
“Their goal here is to put the FBI on trial, to put Bob Mueller’s investigation on trial and the president is only too happy to accommodate” Rep. Schiff said on CBS’s Face the Nation.
Rep. Schiff said that it is a well- known defense tactic to try to put the FBI and Bob Mueller’s investigation on trial.
“When the facts look increasingly incriminating of your client, you try to put the government on trial” Rep. Schiff said.
Following the release of the Republican Nunes memo, President Trump claimed this memo totally vindicates “Trump” in probe during a February 3rd tweet and maintained that there was “no collusion” and “no obstruction” despite the fact that Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation of President Trump’s administration from the Justice Department continues and isn’t finished.
“But the Russian Witch Hunt goes on and on. Their was no Collusion and there was no Obstruction (the word now used because, after one year of looking endlessly and finding NOTHING, collusion is dead). This is an American disgrace!” Trump tweeted on February 3rd.

Rep. Schiff said that he believes that the FBI followed all of the procedures correctly with the Carter Page surveillance warrant.
“Everything I have seen they followed the correct procedures” Rep. Schiff said concerning the FISA application process that was undertaken in the foreign intelligence surveillance court.
