Preet Bharara On Trump And Obstruction: “Absolutely Evidence To Begin A Case”

Last Friday during a White House press conference, President Trump rejected the testimony of former FBI Director James Comey’s that he made before a Senate Intelligence Committee on Thursday over their past conversations about a FBI case of former national security adviser Michael Flynn.

Former New York Southern U.S. District Attorney General Preet Bharara, who was fired by President Trump in March, said on ABC’s This Week With George Stephanopoulos that James Comey has a reputation for probity and telling the truth while the president sometimes makes accusations that turn out not to be true.

“And when it comes down to who’s telling the truth and who’s not, I think most people would side reasonably with James Comey” Bharara said.

President Trump has recently gone on the attack against Comey by deflection attention away from his damaging testimony last Thursday and placing more emphasis on Comey’s leaks to the press with his past memos containing accounts of their past conversations.

Earlier today, President Trump tweeted, “I believe the James Comey leaks will be far more prevalent than anyone ever thought possible. Totally illegal? Very ‘cowardly!'”

Preet Bharara was asked by This Week host George Stephanopoulos about whether there is evidence to begin a case for obstruction.

Bharara said there’s “absolutely evidence to begin a case” but later explained that no one knows right now whether there is a provable case of obstruction.

President Trump went on the attack today against Democrats on Sunday, accusing them of being obstructionists in terms of their failure to go along with his policies.

Trump tweeted, “The Democrats have no message, not on economics, not on taxes, not on jobs, not on failing #Obamacare They are only OBSTRUCTIONISTS!”
