Trump Discusses Replacing Obamacare, Russian Hacking At Press Conference

President elect Donald Trump gave his first press conference on Wednesday since winning the U.S. presidency and  shared his views about a variety of topics ranging from Russian hacking during the election to replacing Obamacare.

At the beginning of the press conference, Trump complained about the way a couple of news organizations had reported a “fake news story”about the release of a 35 page unverified dossier containing allegations about him having direct contact with Russian government, among things.

Trump later admitted that he has great respect for the news and freedom of the press.

After criticizing Obamacare which he called a “complete and total disaster” Trump said, “You’re gonna be very proud of what we put forth having to do with health care.”

Commenting about the replacement of Obamacare which is expected to become a major undertaking, Trump said that his administration will be submitting a new health care plan as soon as their new secretary has been approved in the Senate.

Admitting that it will be “repeal and replace,” Trump insisted that the new health care coming forward under his administration will be “far less expensive” and “far better.”

“And we’re gonna get a health bill passed, we’re gonna get health care taken care of in this country” Trump said.

Claiming the drug industry is getting away with murder, Trump said we need to create new bidding procedures for the drug industry.

“Pharma, pharma has a lot of lobbies and a lot of lobbyists and a lot of power and there’s very little bidding on drugs. We’re the largest buyer of drugs in the world and yet we don’t bid properly and we’re going to start bidding and we’re going to save billions of dollars over a period of time” Trump said.

Russian Hacking

When asked if Vladimir Putin ordered the hack of the Democratic National Committee and the attempted hack of the Republican National Committee, Trump replied, “I think it was Russia” before he quickly shifted gears and pointed out that America also gets hacked by other countries and other people.

Later in the press conference, Trump said that Vladimir Putin shouldn’t have been doing it concerning the hacking and claimed that Russia will have much greater respect for America when he’s leading than when other people have led it.

Trump said that he doesn’t think President Obama went too far after he slapped additional sanctions on Russia for the cyber hacking during the election season.

Trump maintained the Democratic National Committee did a very poor job maintaining their hacking defense compared to the Republican National Committee and spoke negatively about the things that were uncovered from the hacked e-mails which were later released on WikiLeaks.

“That Hillary Clinton got the questions to the debate and didn’t report it? That’s a horrible thing. That’s a horrible thing” Trump insisted.

Trump was asked about why he spent weeks undermining the U.S. intelligence community before getting the facts and then issuing a public statement which he did on January 6th.

” Well, I think it’s pretty sad when intelligence reports get leaked out to the press” Trump said before claiming that it’s illegal.

“You know, these are — these are classified and certified meetings and reports” Trump said.

The final report about Russian hacking that was released on January 6th from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence wasn’t a “classified” document as Trump stated.

It was a declassified document and can be read here:

Trump said that he considers it an asset if Vladimir Putin likes him and noted that America has a horrible relationship with Russia.

Trump claimed that Russia can help the U.S. fight ISIS which he blamed on the Obama administration for creating, a controversial claim which he often recited during his presidential campaign.

“Russia can help us fight ISIS, which, by the way, is, number one, tricky. I mean if you look, this administration created ISIS by leaving at the wrong time. The void was created, ISIS was formed” Trump said.

Tax Returns and Comment About His Cabinet

Trump was asked about releasing his tax returns during a fiery exchange with a female reporter who asked him the question.

“You know, the only one that cares about my tax returns are the reporters, OK? They’re the only who ask” Trump said.

Trump said he doesn’t think the American public cares at all about his tax returns and explained that they are under audit.

Concerning his selected cabinet nominees that are currently awaiting to be confirmed in the U.S. Senate, Trump replied, “I think we have one of the great Cabinets ever put together.”

Trump said he wants to bring the greatest people into government, “because we’re way behind.”

“We don’t make good deals anymore; we make bad deals. Our trade deals are a disaster” Trump explained.
