Stocks Trade Lower Ahead Of Yellen Speech

U.S. stock indexes have opened lower at the beginning of the trading day ahead of Fed Chair Janet Yellen’s 12:00 EST speech at an economic club about monetary policy and the economic outlook.

Later this afternoon, Dallas Fed President Robert Kaplan will give 2 speeches in Texas.

During the Fed’s last policy meeting in mid- March, a dovish tone emerged and Fed Chairwoman Janet Yellen cited global headwinds as one of the main reasons for not raising interest rates while Fed Committee members revised their forecast and issued 2 interest rates in 2016, down from 4 during their December policy meeting.

U.S. stock markets and crude oil have rallied since early February with the Dow gaining over 10 percent and crude oil jumping over 50 percent.
