Apple will launch their new Apple Watch today at a press event in San Francisco as tech enthusiasts, investors, and consumers await to discover if the latest wearable accessory from Apple will dazzle and become a hot item in a crowded wearable market.
Last September Apple unveiled the Apple Watch, calling it “Apple’s most personal device ever” and introduced some features of the watch that will be reviewed again here until Monday’s press event in San Francisco provides some new details.
The Apple Watch is not your grandfather’s watch.
Besides displaying the time, Apple Watch can track fitness activity, play music like an iPod, receive and send texts, and make phone calls with its built in microphone and speaker.
You can press the button next to the Digital Crown to access Friends, where you can see thumbnails of the people you like to stay in touch with and then just tap to send a message. You can use your finger to draw a sketch on the watch and send it to a friend or loved one.
Apple Watch can let friends or loved ones know you’re thinking of them with silent, gentle customized tap patterns they’ll feel on the wrist if they are wearing the watch.
You can also send a friend a map of where you are located.
Apple’s Siri is available on Apple watch.
Apple Watch starts at $349.00 and is available in three distinct collections: Apple Watch, Apple Watch Sport, and Apple Watch Edition, a more expensive version that has a ceramic back, sapphire crystal, and 18 karat gold in its body.
Apple hired watch designers from luxury brands such as Tag Heurer, as Vox reported last year.
Apple also brought in respected designer Marc Newson who joined Apple last year to help design the stylish yet wearable watches for Apple.
Apple Watch is water resistant and comes in two different sizes: 38 mm and 42 mm (women’s and men’s size).
Apple Watch needs to be tethered or paired to an iPhone for it to be fully functional.
Most of the watch features won’t work without it being paired to a nearby iPhone, except for tracking activity and fitness levels, using Apple Pay, or playing music that was already downloaded to the watch.
Apple Watch is compatible with iPhone 5, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5s, iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus with the latest version of iOS.
Apple Watch has integrated Apple Pay, using NFC, that allows users to pay for items at a store or board a plane using a Passbook boarding pass. NFC technology also allows an Apple Watch user to open up their own hotel room door.
Apple Watch will come with its own Apps on the main display.
More information about Apple Watch will be released during the tech event on Monday and reported later here on this site.
